Add Menu Items

Now begin adding menu items to your menu.

There are 4 sections on the left-hand side that you can add menu items from. You can choose from pre-existing Pages, Post, or Categories. You can also create custom links.

Here’s how you would add a Page, for example.

You will then see those Pages added to your menu. Posts and Categories work in a similar fashion.

In order to add Custom Links to your menu, type or paste in the URL of the link, and then add the link text. Then hit Add to Menu.

At the bottom of the menu, you’ll see an option to add top-level pages to the menu automatically. That means that when you create a new page, it will automatically get inserted into your menu as a menu item.

Assign Menu to a Location

You now need to assign your menu to a location in your theme so it will be visible. Themes come with different prebuilt locations where you place your menus. For example, many themes may have a location at the top and sometimes at the bottom of the site for menus.

At the bottom of the menu, you will see check boxes for locations to place the menu. Remember to click the Save Menu button when you’re done.

Another way to place a menu in a location is to use the Manage Locations tab at the top of the page. This will list the locations your theme has provided for menus. You will then need to use the pulldown menu to choose which menu you’d like to place there. (You can create more than one menu.)

Edit Menu Items

You can also rename the links for your menu items by opening a menu item (click on the little down arrow in the top right of the menu item), and then renaming it.

You can also remove the menu item from the menu in the lower left hand corner.

You can rearrange your menu items by simply dragging them where you like.

If you drag a menu item into an indented position below another menu item, it will then become a sub-menu item of the one on top of it.
