    Hi,

You can try using the recent_posts shortcode.
    https://theme4press.com/docs/shortcodes/

    http://demo.theme4press.com/evolve/posts/

    Thanks!

    Thanks for that.

Could you help me out with the shortcode please. It seems like such a basic thing and yet I cannot get it to work. I just want 2 columns of posts from a articular category displaying on a page.

    I tried:

But it didn’t seem to work.

I hope you can steer me in the right direction. Thanks.

    Hi,

You used the wrong shortcode, it is recent_posts not recent_works. Please kindly use one of the following possible combinations.

    Thanks!

OK, that’s great. I do not get a thumbnail or image of the pic inside the posts which is what I want.

What I want is exactly the same as:
    http://demo.theme4press.com/evolve/category/cat-c/

But I want these in 2 columns on a page.

    Is it possible?

    Hi,

You need to set featured image for each of your posts. The following article has detail explanation.
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-featured-image-or-post-thumbnails-in-wordpress/

The above shortcode I provided includes the featured image.
    Please see screenshot http://prntscr.com/7jlrkg

In your case, you only need to change the columns="3" to columns="2"

Only elements that appear in this screenshot http://prntscr.com/7jlrkg is possible. Otherwise, it is custom coding and Sorry we do not provide support for custom coding.

    Thanks!

OK, we’re good to go now. Sorry for such a basic question.

Is there a way to put each in a box or border? Would look nicer for me.

    Thanks.

I also now find that the excerpt length is weird.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Morning

And as I said, if I could put a border or background on each to seperate them that would be super.

    Thnaks.

    Hi,

In your Theme Options -> Custom CSS Add the following codes, this will give you a border for each post.

In order for excerpt length to work, you cannot have a ‘hand crafted’ excerpt, this means the Except textbox under your WordPress add post, must be empty.
    Please see screenshot. http://prntscr.com/7jun0k

You will need to write a shorter except if you want to shorten it’s length, or leave it empty and the shortcode function will automatically grab the content and shorten it for use as the excerpt.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Your excerpts are not empty, they are hidden from view.
    I have unhidden them.

    Hi,

    This is how it works.

    1) If there is hand crafted excerpt, the shortcode uses it, does not shorten it.
    2) If there is no hand crafted excerpt, the shortcode uses the content and you can shorten it using excerpt_words="15" strip_html="true"

    It’s either or 1 or 2.

    Thanks!
    Denzel
