I currently and using version 1.8 so am quite behind in updating. How do I update the theme? I don’t see a link in the admin to do so.

(Google maps on my contact page has stopped working and I don’t see where to put the api code -that is what started this)

    Thanks
    Sue

Hi. to update from an old version to a new one you just need to upload the new Evolve plus and simply switch to it (activate). Our scripts should be able to pick up your settings from the old theme and transfer them. However, given the fact that you are using a very old theme and overall as a good rule of thumb, DO NOT forget to back everything up, including your website and database. Is something goes wrong, you can always switch back.

I just tried to install and got the following :

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

    Destination folder already exists. /home/designbysue/public_html/wp-content/themes/evolve-plus/

    Theme installation failed.

Sorry, I misled you by mistake. This is the way to upgrade from the free theme to the new one. Basically, when you are updating from an old theme to the new, you need to rename the old theme folder to something else, and simply enable the new one. Our upgrading function should be able to pick up all your Redux settings. But since it is a very old theme, please make sure you back everything up before you do this.

So rename the old then upload the new and enable it?
( I don’t get notifications that the posts are updated even though I check the box – so have to check back – sorry for the delay)

Sorry that you didn’t get the notifications – they sometimes do get lost in spam lately, we are looking into it. And yes, the process is to remove the old theme or to rename its folder, and then upload and activate the new one. I remind you again – do NOT forget to back up the old theme and the database, so you can roll back in case you need it.

I tried to update as suggested but the entire look of my site is gone with the update – there are not graphics at all. I reactivated the old version of the theme and everything is still there and correct. Please help me update to the new version without loosing all of my setting from the old version. I am working on designbysue.com right now but have others that I need to update also. Please help. (let me know what you need to do so)

    thanks
    Sue

In this case, it seems that for some reason the new theme is unable to transfer the settings of the older version. It might be that the old version you are using is way too old (and it is) and also it might be that not all the customization was done through settings, so it can’t be transferred. If the was I’m proposing doesn’t work, you will need help from a developer to transfer. I could try (and I’m prepared to) to try to see what can be done if you will send me the files and the database of your website, so I can recreate it on a local server and see what can be done. However, my guess is that is will not bring the desired result. But I’m ready to try and help anyway.

Thanks – I have 2 sites in a similar place and need to update both – this is the easier of the 2 and I would appreciate your attempt with this one. How can I get the files to you?

The best way would be to upload the entire thing to Dropbox and send me a link to download. We will see if we can do something to assist.
