I cannot make any changes in the customize menu. I have tried all of the fixes in the previous forums (I think) and it still is not functioning. It opens, but none of the buttons will work so I cannot make changes in any way, not even delete content.

I actually got it working yesterday. Through the WordPress dashboard it said my theme was up to date. The decreased functionality I was experiencing meant I could not see the version of the theme. I tried to upload the newest theme manually, but again it was not allowing me to make any changes to the site from the dashboard. I installed a WP manager and saw that the theme was actually the 2.8.3 version and was out of date. Through the WP manager I could upload the new theme. I am not sure why the theme did not continue to update, try and stay on top of that and recall doing an update in the last few months. Now that I have it updated I have to fix some of the elements that did not transfer. But at least I can make changes!

The automatic update is a relatively recent feature. And it was unfortunately broken in 2.9.9.9, so soon we will publish version 3.0 of the theme and there this feature will be fixed. BTW, you didn’t need any plugin – you just had to remove the old theme and then upload the new one. But anyway, glad it is OK now.

I tried to just remove it but I lost all ability to do anything. Any button related to the theme was not working. The plugin was the only way I could access it.

That’s probably because you didn’t have to just remove it, you needed to remove theme4press core plugin as well, and redux. Because they are old and incompatible. If you didn’t remove them after the update, then please do it now, especially the t4p core.

I had all plugins disabled. I still had them disabled, but removed them. Thanks

Since the problem is resolved, discussing theoretical problems of themes, plugins and WordPress installations seems fruitless. So we can leave it at that. Do talk to us if you run into some trouble in the future. Have a great day!
