Hi Roman. I found in the forum instructions to update the theme but it’s not working. You said to delete the old version and then install the new one. I am running WordPress multisite and the 2.5 version will not delete from either Network Admin or the main site. Other themes can be deleted but not alora. I could go to cPanel and delete all the alora files and then install alora 2.7.0 in WordPress, but I don’t want to try that until I know it is okay to do it that way.

    My activated theme is “alora-child.”

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Roman,

Any chance of getting help with this? It’s been 5 days, 11 hours since I posted it.

    Hi,

You asked for Roman, so I did not answer your question. Very sorry to keep you waiting.

You have child theme activated, so you cannot delete the parent theme, in this case, the parent theme is Alora Theme.
This is how WordPress works, because child theme needs the parent theme’s template to work, so logically you cannot delete parent theme while child theme is activated.

If you only have css added to your style.css of alora-child, then you should have no problem.
But if you have other templates in your alora-child that is used to overwrite the Alora Theme, then you should try out on your computer first. This is because codes in version 2.7 may have been very different from 2.5. I am not the person developing the Alora Theme, so I do not know what has been updated.

If you have no template overriding on alora-child, then you can keep a copy of Alora 2.5 on your computer and proceed to update your server with Alora 2.7

If you are not sure, then you should setup a “single” WordPress installation on your computer and install your alora-child and Alora version 2.7 for compatibility check before updating your server.

    Thanks!
    Denzel

Thanks for the information, Denzel. But I’m still not sure of how to proceed. I don’t have any templates overriding on alora-child. So you say “You can keep a copy of Alora 2.5 on your computer and proceed to update your server with Alora 2.7.” Roman said to delete the old version and then install the new one. But since I can’t delete version 2.5 while alora-child is active, how, exactly, do I update to version 2.7?

The reason for a child theme is so we can update themes without losing the settings in the older version of the theme. But, apparently, the alora theme can’t be updated using the standard WP method. So, again, how do I update without losing my theme settings?

    Thanks.

    Bob,

I just went through this myself. What worked for me was to install ANY other theme (just pick something basic through wordpress) and activate it temporarily. Once you have a different theme active you can click on on the old alora 2.5.0 (parent) and delete it (Roman recommends making a backup of this first and that’s probably a good idea, I just copied the alora directory to my PC before deleting it). Once deleted you can upload and install the new 2.7.0 version and then activate it. After switching back to alora 2.7.0 all of my settings we preserved, my site looked the same and no further action was required. Hopefully my experiences will be helpful to you and good luck!

    Hi Dennis,

Thank you very much for your detail explanation.

    Hi Bob,

    What Dennis mentioned is correct.
And that is the standard WordPress method.
All Theme Options are saved in the database, nothing to do with your child theme.

    Thanks!

    Hi Denzel and Dennis,

Thanks for the good advice! I suspected that was the way to do it, but wanted someone else to chime in before I proceeded.

At first, after I updated, it looked like I lost some things because the LayerSlider I had placed under the homepage header wasn’t there and the page layout wasn’t right. But then I saw that I needed to reinstall the LayerSlider and the Theme4Press Core. Once that was done everything worked.

    So thanks again, guys!
