    Okay. It appears I can achieve my goal by using the Content Box shortcode on the homepage instead. Didn’t really want to since it’s easier to make updates using the Customize panel, but it works.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I had my Blog page selected as a static page for blog posts so the page wouldn’t allow for content edits as your screenshot displayed. I deselected it as the default blog and then added the blog shortcode in the content area instead. I guess WP considers it a “front page” and adds the content automatically.
