about the z-index you are right, the front page content boxes are not designed for a html content, but have a quick fix 😉
Custom CSS:
.home-content-boxes a:link {
z-index: 2;
position: relative;
}
free version is not required to be installed for the premium version…to check if the premium theme works just fine, enable it, not the child theme 😉
it looks you are using a child theme? is it correctly set? where can I see the links? for me all work just fine..buttons as well
you are using some plugins..tried to disable one by one and check if it helps?

set the slider for a page https://theme4press.com/docs/setting-up-the-sliders/ and then assign the page as the front page in Settings -> Reading
