Ah, I’ve just realised it’s a plugin called jetpack that was causing the problem. many thanks please close the case.

Yes I understand that but on my Iphone it looks great when I view it by clicking ‘view full site’ everything is responsive and as it should be however it defaults to ‘mobile site’ where all the colours and layouts are wrong.
